Vision
Walking alongside "Overlooked Grievers" in their painful journey after the loss of a loved one.
About
Camp Braveheart is a Christ-centered camp designed to meet the unique spiritual and emotional needs of youth who are walking the journey of grief after the death of someone they dearly love. By understanding the grief process, the campers learn how to identify their feelings and how to express them in healthy ways.
The feeling of being all alone and no one understanding is defused when, not only do they realize God’s presence in their lives, but they are with others in similar circumstances. Being fearful, anxious, angry, exhausted, lonely and paralyzed by guilt are overwhelming, but normal emotions of grief.
Goals of Camp:
The goal of camp is to provide strategies to create an environment for healing and adjustment by:
Knowing they are not alone by building support from others walking the same journey;
Understanding the grief process;
Establishing a vocabulary to express their emotions;
Learning healthy coping skills to manage this difficult season in their life; and,
Providing a safe place to express their grief in order to bring healing into their lives and adjust to their new normal.
“When tragedy struck our family and we suddenly lost our 17 year old son, Mark, we had no idea how to even make it though the next minute, much less how to help our other children. Camp Braveheart was a lifeline of hope and healing for our other kids. It gave them a safe place to grieve the loss of their brother and they discovered friendships that I know will last a lifetime. Our family plans our summers around camp. I am forever grateful for the gift it has been to my children.”
